1.                  When does a rational function have a zero asymptote?  A non-zero horizontal asymptote?  An oblique asymptote that is a straight line?  Give (and sketch) an example of each.

2.                  Per capita growth rate for bacteria as a function of food concentration is often modeled as . .  Explain why  is called the maximum growth rate.  Graph with = 2.2, and k = 1.1, 2.5, and 0.6.  How does k change the graph?  Explain why k is called the half saturation constant.

3.                  Suppose that is the average cost in dollars per widget.  Graph.  What does the cost approach for very large N?  Explain in terms of fixed costs and unit costs.  How many widgets must you produce to get the average cost under $15?
